In celebration of Earth Day 2018, Ecore, a flooring manufacturer in Lancaster that transforms reclaimed materials into unique performance surfaces, will be hosting a neighborhood block party for the surrounding Lancaster community on April 20th. On the front lawn of Ecore’s headquarters, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy flavorful ethnic cuisines while playing games, making DIY seed bombs, browsing informational booths and connecting with local green companies.

Ecore, whose moniker was constructed through the fusion of the pre-fixes “eco” from ecological and “re” from recycle, has been dedicated to making smart, environmentally-friendly choices for more than a century. Originally focused on replicating the benefits of wood through cork products, the company has since evolved far beyond even the basics of recycling into the world of upcycling. In 2016 alone, Ecore was the largest converter of reclaimed rubber in North America, successfully diverting more than 86 million pounds of truck tires from ending up in landfills.

“Creating a fully sustainable corporate culture with dedicated employees committed to upholding our mission is the driving force behind our work,” said Art Dodge III, CEO and president of Ecore. “We are excited to share our passion for green initiatives with the neighborhood, and show the entire Lancaster community the positive impact each family can have by simply rethinking their recycling practices at home.”

In preparation for the Earth Day 2018 festivities, an exhibit featuring the word ‘Rethink’ made out of metal grates filled with recyclable materials will be on display on the front lawn of the Ecore Lancaster plant for the next two weeks. Courtesy of the City of Lancaster Recycling program, the exhibit signifies Ecore’s vision to go beyond traditional recycling practices and focus on sustainability throughout all operations.
Attendees can learn more about Ecore’s upcycling practices at the Earth Day event which will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Ecore’s headquarters, located on 715 Fountain Avenue in Lancaster.
